HALIFAX, N.S. — Halifax does

"fairly well" in a new study that ranks Canadian cities and neighbourhoods according to their environmental qualities.

“I always like to remind people that 100 years ago, there was 20 per cent urban and 80 per cent rural and now it's completely flipped so that most people in Canada live in urban areas,” he said. “It's funny, when we were putting this together, we never thought of it as like a scorecard or a way to compare cities,” Rainham said.

“But Halifax, in my opinion, is doing fairly well. We don't have some of the highest values and we don't have some of the lowest values, and that means that the quality of the environment is spread relatively equally across the city, which is, in my opinion as a health researcher, quite good because it means that there's an equitable access to relatively good environmental conditions.
