The Serious Incident Response Team said on the night of Oct. 24, 2023, the woman and her boyfriend went inside a bathroom stall at the establishment, after which they were told this was not permitted and were then asked to settle their bill and leave the premises. As she was being escorted out, the woman had physical confrontations with staff members inside and outside before the officer, who had been flagged down by staff as the couple were paying, arrived and placed her under arrest.
“As a result of her behaviour, the woman was taken to the ground to be handcuffed and moved to the police cruiser,” said SiRT in a statement. After continued aggressive behaviour in the vehicle, an officer moved her to a police wagon before transporting her to the lockup for an overnight stay.SIRT’s investigation, which included testimony from multiple staff members and police and video footage of the incident, led interim director Erin Nauss to determine criminal charges against the subject officer were not warranted.
