As a result of being the sole filmmaker selected as a NSTT scholarship recipient, the 18-year-old earned $2,000 through supports by the Creative Nova Scotia Leadership Council’s Arts Endowment Fund. The award is certainly an accomplishment for the Guysborough filmmaker as well. After all, although she has been a fan of movies her entire life, MacKeen admits it wasn’t until very recently that she decided to pursue the cinematic arts for her post-secondary education.

“I never felt that way about something,” recalls MacKeen, noting she spent hours that summer writing, filming and editing a short paranoid thriller entitled The Watcher. “I loved doing it and I didn’t realize how long I was spending on it because I genuinely enjoyed the experience of it all.”
