Green Party would plant 10 billion trees to fight climate change

The Green leader said Friday the climate emergency calls for Canada to embark on a massive tree-planting initiative in fire-ravaged areas because trees rebuild ecosystems, cool urban environments and store large amounts of carbon.

May said the Green plan also involves employing jobless forest workers to plant seedlings, remove fire-charred trees and cut fire-break areas to protect communities from future wildfires. The wildfires in B.C.'s Interior consumed a record 13,500 square kilometres of land in 2018, eclipsing the 2017 record of 12,000 square kilometres.

"It's a good thing to plant two billion trees," she said. "It's not nearly enough and it's quite wrong to say you'll fund it by buying a pipeline."

Well she can get all those protesters to do that instead of blocking roads 😳

Climate change is a natural worldwide event which changes the environment over time. It would happen even if there were NO PEOPLE on the earth.

Currently BC alone plants around 220M trees per year. Canada wide in 2016 we planted around 615M trees. It’s outlined in the Natural Resources Canada 2018 Report. So planting 10B over 30 years works out to 333 million a year which is 282M per year less than now. Math’s important.

How does one even plant 10 billion trees? Plants produce hundreds of thousands of seeds a season. They are very capable of planting trees if given the chance.
