Rick Kennedy, president of the PCH Foundation board, said the fundraiser's success is a testament to the Prince County community and generosity from across the Island. That community effort includes work done by many organizations annually to raise money to contribute to the event. Developed and organized by local businessman Warren Ellis and family, Grass Roots and Cowboy Boots is the largest annual fundraising event held for the PCH Foundation. It began as a small-scale dinner and has expanded to include a live auction and entertainment, growing into a community gathering and social event.
"It's unbelievable, the way the people of this community came together and just embraced this hospital," said Ellis. "Tonight was — it just blew the roof off here."Every dollar raised supports the purchase of medical equipment. The hospital's three ultrasound machines are chief among the essential, life-saving medical equipment to be replaced this year. At $525,000, the units make up a significant portion of the list of greatest needs for patient care.
