Government actions prompt another senseless war

The shocking violence against Israelis and the subsequent breakout of war in Israel and Gaza is the last thing an already crisis-riven planet needs today. But let’s face it: anyone who follows closely what has been happening in the Middle East should have recognized that a major conflict was pretty much inevitable given the complexion and makeup of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government.

Instead of seeking a lasting institutional arrangement that could bring peace and prosperity to both Israelis and Palestinians, this Netanyahu government would completely dismiss the aspirations of a people who have been forcibly displaced from their homes, and let them vegetate as second-class citizens within a Jewish state with no prospect for anything better.
