Kumagai said Lighftoot, who began doing November residencies at Massey Hall in 1967 and more recently reopened the newly renovated hall in November 2021, may be gone but his artistry will live on. “The world has lost one of its most profound voices, but his songs will play on and his soul will always be found at Massey Hall,” he said.
“We are eternally grateful for the man and his music, and that he made Massey Hall his home. May he rest in peace and harmony.”
