A Google Street View picture of trees toppled onto power lines in Antigonish by post-tropical storm Fiona.ANTIGONISH, N.S. — On Sept. 25, Allie Braun looked at her sweet little car.It was a day since post-tropical storm Fiona ravaged Antigonish , the power was still out and she needed to get to work.
That view is created by sending a piece of kit that takes overlapping photos covering 360 degrees, ties them to a GPS unit and laser that provides distances to structures, up and down streets on cars, down narrow allyways on scooters and even fitted to a backpack and a snowmobile. By some quirk of scheduling, it appears the Google Street View car passed through Antigonish just after Fiona landed. While photos of the town’s main streets have since been replaced with photos from other trips , many of the side streets still show the Fiona pictures.
So it was that when Braun sought to use Street View to confirm her postal code last weekend, she was transported back in time.“Then a neighbour came by the next day and said, ‘Are you the woman who owns the little white car?'”
