A sunny day at the beach took a frightening turn for a Halifax-area family after their young daughter was stung by a Portuguese man o’ war.

Seven-year-old Maria Legge was swimming at Lawrencetown Beach on Sunday when she spotted what she thought were a pair of pink sunglasses floating in the water.“It really hurt,” says Maria.

Although she flung the creature away, some of the broken purple and pink tentacles remained wrapped around Maria’s hand -- an unmistakable trait of the Portuguese man o’ war, which is related to the jellyfish and is infamous for its painful sting. The creature washed back ashore, as Maria’s symptoms worsened by the minute.

Experts say the warm waters bring more tropical sea cultures to Nova Scotia’s beaches, including the Portuguese man o' war, which have been spotted at several beaches in the last few weeks. While the Portuguese man o' war has caused deaths in the past, MacNeil said that's only in very severe cases.

Our govt looks for ways to rob us and the Lamestream Media backs them up Yes! Fascinating how media actively doesn’t report the race of suspected criminals, terrorists and so on, to “avoid bias”, yet we get articles like this, that make race not just the most important thing, but the only thing that matters. Shame on the kids running the globe.

Black Nova Scotia man 'overjoyed' as struggle for land title moves forwardChristopher Downey is among scores of African Nova Scotians who have struggled for years to have their land title claims recognized. But now, after he won his case in Nova Scotia Supreme Court, the province says it is going to make it easier for Black Nova Scotians to settle land claims. Why does it have to be a “black Nova Scotia man”? Why could’t the title read, “Nova Scotia couple”. Oh because that would not fit the narrative of systemic racism in Canada. BS way to go, keep going forward with your life!!!! TobyBoulet The bit of the story of these folks is in, 'The Book of Negroes'. I read the book as a mature adult & realized this was the first I had known about Nova Scotia's connection to the lives of former slaves from the U.S.
