Giovinco will continue living in Toronto, but said he is no longer in Toronto FC\u0027s plans

Giovinco, TFC’s all-time leading scorer, had joined the Reds a couple of weeks ago for pre-season camp in Irvine, CA but then departed for Italy to join his new team, Serie A side Sampdoria, before TFC departed for Austin, TX for stage two of pre-season training.

In an interview on Sampdoria’s official website, and posted by Football Italia, Giovinco said he joined the ‘Blucerchati’ after TFC had told him that he was not in their plans. “I didn’t think twice when I received Sampdoria’s call,” Giovinco said. “I prepared the luggage and hit the road. I will live in Toronto in the future, but some opportunities only come once in a lifetime. I am happy to have signed with Sampdoria, a prestigious club with a fascinating kit.

“I will give my all for the club to gain survival as soon as possible,” he continued. “As you all know, I had been training with Toronto until ten days ago, I had almost closed a deal with them, but then it collapsed. I was told that I was not in their plans. Three days later, I received a call from Sampdoria. I want to enjoy every moment here.”

The former Juventus striker has signed a six-month contract at Marassi but trained with the MLS side before his return to Serie A.
