Kirkjufellsfoss and Kirkjufell Mountain, Iceland. PAUL ILLSLEYGASPEREAU, N.S. — An Annapolis Valley photographer has produced an online tool to share a recent adventure and help others interested in exploring Iceland.

Illsley toured the island for five weeks, camping along the way and capturing as many images as he could. He returned home to Nova Scotia on July 8. He said he was fortunate to have spent so much time there. He likens the country to a “photographer’s candy bowl” because there is so much to explore. Located on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge just below the Arctic Circle, it features glaciers, volcanoes, geothermal vents, geysers, waterfalls, black sand beaches and more.

He decided to go in June because there would be less rain, warmer temperatures, and longer hours of daylight. Because the country is so northerly, it experiences 24-hour daylight around the summer solstice. Illsley said he didn’t experience a sunset the entire time he was there.
