Before the game, Alfredsson received his Hall-of-Fame blazer as part of the celebrations.
This was the fifth year Alfredsson was eligible for induction to the hall of fame. He was within his rights to wonder if it would ever happen. A sixth-round pick in 1994 at 21-years-old, Alfredsson had to battle the odds to even get to the NHL. “This is such a great honour for him, it’s great for the city of Ottawa, the Senators and I know everyone in Sweden is very proud of him.”
What Alfredsson earned most in his career, and it’s been easy to see for those of us who have been in town for all the events this weekend, is the respect he’s earned. That was never more evident than when Sundin talked about their faceoffs in the Battle of Ontario while also playing together at the Olympics in 2002 and 2006.
