A pair of glasses belonging to Mahatma Gandhi are expected to fetch thousands of dollars at auction after the owner mailed the spectacles in an envelope to auctioneers.

Staff at East Bristol Auctions found the glasses in the company's mailbox on Monday. Auctioneer Andrew StoweStowe said the glasses are "probably the most important find" in the company's history.

When Stowe phoned the owner to tell him of the glasses' value, he said the owner "nearly had a heart attack."According to the owner, the glasses had been handed down from generation to generation in his family. The family had come to possess the eyewear after a relative met Gandhi in South Africa in the 1920s.

Ya Right! Just Where he left Them! Wink!Wink!

I wont' even read this, I call BS

The auctioneer is a thief and put them there

Ay those be mine

No wonder he didn't see it coming. 😪

Austere yet practical; the hooked arms would keep them from falling off his face, unlike much of today's eyewear. The very sort of thing you'd expect from a man of Gandhi's character.

Prepare yourself

was he framed?

i wouldnt want to bid on glasses that belonged to a classist who believed in the caste system but thats just me. he really wasnt all that.

That man sold India to britishers and was hand in gloves with them, all drama for the world about civil rights....Gandhi, mother Teresa, malala, Greta are all PR successes nothing else.

I don't think he needs them any more.

How do they know they are Ghandi’s and like most glass wearers probably had multiple pairs.

Yup their Ganhis glasses, found the same pair on kijiji.

Give them back to India!
