You can almost hear the beams creaking and cracking as the edifice of the Liberal carbon tax sags under the weight of opposition.And if that happens, it could take down Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his minority Liberal government.

He justified this decision on the basis that oil is more expensive than other home heating fuels like natural gas and propane. Oil is used more by rural residents who are often in lower income brackets. In Saskatchewan, for example, Premier Scott Moe is threatening to stop collecting the carbon tax on natural gas in that province.

The NDP will support this motion because Canadians are dealing with affordability issues, regardless of where they live and what kind of fuel they use to heat their homes.At this point, the whole policy is starting to look inconsistent and unfair. No tax is ever going to be popular, particularly one that is compounding the pain Canadians are feeling with inflation, the cost of food and the housing crisis.
