Appearing before the House of Commons Finance Committee on Monday, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland defended the government's response to Canadians' affordability concerns as 'focused' and fiscally responsible. With the passage of the GST rebate-boosting bill through the House all but a foregone conclusion, Freeland was peppered with questions from opposition MPs on a range of topics, including inflation.

Appearing before the House of Commons Finance Committee on Monday, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland defended the government's response to Canadians' affordability concerns as "focused" and fiscally responsible.

According to the government, boosting the credit would mean single Canadians without children would receive up to an extra $234; a couple with two kids would receive up to an extra $467; and seniors, on average, would receive an extra $225. "If I talk to people my riding of Davenport they will say that they continue to be worried. They see the rising costs of food. They see that in general their cost of living are going up… And it seems like there's no end in sight.

The government says approximately 11 million individuals and families would receive a boost through the GST rebate hike, which is set to administer $2.5 billion in additional funding to current recipients before the year’s end, if the bill passes in time.

We want affordable housing. We need adequate medical attention. We don’t want to spend months in line to see the specialist. And we get 2-3 tanks of fuel) you guys chose right thing to be focused on. Nobody even want to touch our medical system “which we all have to be proud of”

Life is unaffordable for half the country? Don't worry peasants. Take these scraps I graciously gift to you. Now be good serfs and work thyselves to death while we jetset around.

She's finance minister, deputy prime minister and lead the team that negotiated CUSMA all with an educational background in Russian literature and Slavonic studies? I'm baffled at the qualifications needed to administer major political portfolios.

Freeland hasn’t a clue what she is doing

Stop trying to help poor people. Government money is for corporate bailouts and loans to big business that never get paid back. Don’t the Liberals know how this works? Repeat after me, private profit, public debt.

Here is an idea. Stop taxing the hell out of the middle class to pay for those in poverty. Between the taxes on: income, property, heat, fuel and other good and services I feel like I am giving 90% of my pay cheque so you can fund the dead beats. It is time for some tough love

Giving Freeland a huge pass on her Ukraine failures. Is not a wining move. She qualifies as a war criminal

Just more head bobbing and snorting from Freeland. Liberals have racked up the largest debt in Canadian history, what’s a trillion dollars and billions in interest payments to carry that debt? Well according to our journalist, Freeland, it’s fiscally responsible.

Take the witch mask off. It’s not halloween yet.

Where is the Prime Minister?

Yet she dodged them all. It takes true talent to make sentences and say absolutely nothing. BTW, TrudeauMustGo TrudeauMustGoNow

You have to be living in abject poverty to qualify for the GST rebate anyway, so this is useless to most of us.

So the questions are more significant than giving folks needed money? Good job CTV. Way to entrench your position as an enemy of the people…and this after you showed your ageist/misogynist card by turfing Laflamme.

CTV seems to have trouble with headlines lately. Did they import some smartass from Fleet Street?

WEF SMILE

Rather misleading title. Makes one think they are raising the GST, not the rebate payent.

They have been peppered with questions asking if they would freeze all these tax increases..

Is she the twitchy blogger that trims her toes during question period? So gross.

She looks happy. Did she go bungee jumping as well?

She is disgusting 🤢

Her acting is slowly getting better, but she still has a ways to go if she wants to be remotely convincing. Trudeau's acting, on the other hand, sucks more than ever.🙄 TrudeauMustGo TrudeauMustGoNow

She is a liar and can never be trusted!

Thoughtful people are into the steak not the pepper.

Chrystia Freeloader has never had to face financial hardship so how the f v ck would she know anything about rough times?

That look on her face tells all - a condescending, smug, arrogant elitist *itch who looks down on the poor and middle class with contempt and disdain. With her cherchecher cat-like grin, she gives you an extra $25 knowing she will raise other taxes to take it back.

GST boost will add nicely to the national debt. More taxes we have to pay through inflation.

It's probably the most favourable photo of this journalist I've seen so far.🙄 BTW, TrudeauMustGo TrudeauMustGoNow.

Liberals should be giving more GST back to ALL Canadians, as they have been raking in the cash as a result of inflation and higher carbon taxes. Liberals love to tax Canadians & they still spend uncontrollably. PierrePoilievre MelissaLantsman cdnpoli DanAlbas

I've been under the impression my gst rebate cheque will be in on wednesday. Now I find out they haven't passed it yet. Liberals and ndp are enough to pass it. What happened? VOTE THEM ALL OUT

Any questions about the China police today

Crazy how her Grandpa was a high level Nazi and she lied about it for years.

Her smiley face is worse than her frowny face

Hey, I almost had a clue!

The Wicked Witch of the World Economic Forum

Refunds are nice, but the big thing they could do would be to cut, or end, the carbon tax

If we don't raise all these taxes how will we fix the weather?
