OTTAWA—The judge who blocked “Freedom Convoy” organizer Tamara Lich’s release from jail expressed “personal” views and should not have ruled on the case because she ran for the federal Liberals in 2011, Lich’s lawyer argued in court on Wednesday.
“Those are the emotions of local Crowns, local judges that were fed up with the truckers in the city. That has no place in a court of law,” Magas said. “There is no basis in fact or law for that submission, and the only thing that it reveals is that the court cannot trust the word of Ms. Lich,” Karimjee said.
“With the rhetoric and the language that came from some members of the Liberal Party of Canada, including the leader of the party, I would have definitely felt uncomfortable had I known that beforehand,” Lich said.
