Former Nova Scotia hockey arena to be converted into solar-powered multisport facility

SYDNEY, N.S. — A non-profit organization called Tomorrow’s Legends is converting a former Nova Scotia hockey arena into a solar-powered, multisport facility in Cape Breton with an investment of over $2.1 million from the federal government.

The project will provide an indoor sports facility for community members and athletes in Cape Breton Regional Municipality. The former Centennial Arena will be retrofitted with rooftop solar panels and a new exterior, creating a sustainable, energy-efficient, net-zero carbon facility. The improvements are expected to reduce the facility’s fuel consumption by an estimated 104 per cent and greenhouse gas emissions by 620 tonnes, states a release.
