ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — Newfoundland and Labrador has selected a former child and youth advocate to serve as the province’ acting information and privacy commissioner while a newly appointed selection committee begins looking for a permanent replacement.
Jackie Lake Kavanagh, the advocate from 2016 to 2021 and a former government deputy minister of education and skills and labour, will take on the role left vacant by Michael Harvey’s resignation on May 5.MICHAEL HARVEY: Body cameras — who’s watching who? “Her extensive executive experience, particularly as a former statutory officer, will be a valuable asset to this office in the interim,” stated Speaker of the House, Derek Bennet
In a release from the House of Assembly, the members of a four-person selection committee were announced as Krista Quinlan, Clerk of the Executive Council; Kim Hawley George, acting Clerk of the House of Assembly; N.L. provincial court Chief Judge Robin Fowler; and acting MUN president and vice-chancellor Neil Bose.
