With Joe Biden elected U.S. president, and possibly the first Democratic presidential candidate to win Georgia in 28 years, much of the credit for his showing here is going to someone who wasn't on the ballot: Stacey Abrams. Abrams, the 2018 Democratic gubernatorial candidate, has devoted years to expanding the electorate and boosting turnout in the state.

Georgia has voted Republican in eight of the last nine presidential elections. But explosive growth and changing demographics are expanding Democrats' base and turning the state purple. Republicans may no longer be able to count on the Peach State.

"With a diverse, growing population and rapidly changing electorate, Georgia is not a future opportunity for Democrats; it is a necessity right now," it said. "Georgia is every bit as competitive as perennial battleground states. With one of the youngest and the most African American electorate of any competitive state, Georgia has demographic advantages that don't exist in other states.

The New Georgia Project says it has registered about 500,000 new voters. And it plans to continue knocking on doors. and trained voter protection teams in 20 battleground states. This year she was among the top candidates considered as potential running mates for Biden. Trump's campaign mocked her, saying she was on a "desperate audition" to become Biden's vice president, but Abrams was not coy about her ambitions.

Georgia's Stacey Abrams navigates voting law fight with eye on 2022Stacey Abrams, Georgia's well-known voting rights advocate, is asked about the new voting law that has set much of her party on fire, she is critical but measured: she discouraged boycotts and reassured Democrats they can still win races under the new rules, even as she hoped they would be struck down in the courts The only way the gop can win is by cheating and voter suppression laws at this point. It's become a fringe party. The most recent example the 'America first caucus' proposed by the 2 dumbest of the party. Stuff like this was unthinkable in the gop 10 Years ago. If she can lose some of that anger , she may have a good chance of winning. Sorry but in a democracy, all voters should need to produce some form of identification in order to prove their residency and citizenship, otherwise fraudulant votes will occur. This is not an issue of race so stop making it one. This is a matter of producing legal identification!
