Helen Aguirre Ferre, a spokeswoman for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, confirmed the deaths on Twitter, writing the individuals were in their 70s and had travelled overseas. She promised in her tweet that updates would be provided regularly as they become available, and did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment Saturday.
The statement did not give immediate indications of where the two had travelled or whether officials were seeking to determine who they came in contact with. Officials had previously announced that five Florida residents who had been travelling in China have also been quarantined elsewhere after testing positive for the virus.
