Representatives from the Wet’suwet’en Nation, Tiny House Warriors, Tsleil-Waututh Nation Sacred Trust Initiative, Union of BC Indian Chiefs, and Indigenous Network on Economies and Trade held a news briefing renewing their call for government intervention in both Coastal GasLink and TMX.to Canada’s representative to the UN in Geneva, expressing grave concern about government approval and police enforcement related to Trans Mountain and Coastal GasLink.
According to its website, the Trans Mountain Corporation has inked 67 mutual benefit agreements with 73 “Indigenous groups” in B.C. and Alberta. The Tsleil-Waututh Nation is one of several in B.C. that is not among them. The UN committee has previously called on Ottawa to halt construction on both projects until free, prior and informed consent — as outlined in theIn a November 2020 letter, it accused Canada of interpreting that principle as engagement in good-faith dialogue, and to “guarantee a process, but not a particular result.”Story continues below advertisement
So why should thet be different than every Canadian. Not all Canadians agree with the Carbon Tax and many other choices our leaders have made for us. If these indiginous communities want financial and other help from us than let the pipeline proceed.
This nonsense again?! Both pipelines have the consent & approval by every First Nations elected chiefs & councils they cross. Many that are hereditary chiefs also.
The core value of democracy and freedom in the mouth of the Canadian government! It will change for different people, different things, and different places! In fact, differential treatment is the core; equal treatment is just a fake coat!
Pipelines provide taxes, taxes pay for social benefits for all Canadians, so if one opposes pipelines where do you expect your social benefits to come from ?
The pipeline was shortsighted in the extreme. It showed successive governments have failed Canadians. That is our own fault.
