I’ve got to be honest with you — the Cadillac Escalade is not for me. Too big. Waaay too big, and too truckish. I’m more a sports sedan kinda guy. Ginormous SUVs are not my thing.

I’m less convinced about the new infotainment system’s headline-generating technology, namely turning that same screen into a giant augmented reality mapping system. Essentially, that same large screen turns into a camera view of what you’re seeing though the windshield, and then “augmented” with instructions — arrows, warnings, etc. — from the mapping software.
As for the rest of the dash, what little switchgear is left is again reminiscent of a Mercedes — subtle yet efficient and easily deciphered. That said, it’ll take you a while to find the seat heaters, zooming the map in or out is a pain, and some of high-tech controls are are a little mysterious.
It should also be noted that the décor — the leather coverings of the seats and doors, most especially — are also a marked step above. This is, again, another area where the Escalade at least matches the best of Mercedes. Pictures, even the glossy studio versions that automakers pump out, don’t truly do it justice. Everyone who climbed into the 2021 Escalade for the first time invariably commented on the quality of the materials.
