Finland's top diplomat appeared to suggest Tuesday that the country may have to consider joining NATO without Sweden after Turkiye's president cast serious doubt on the expansion of the military alliance.

"We still have to evaluate the situation if it turns out that Sweden's application is stalling for a long time to come," Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto told Finnish broadcaster YLE.His comment came a day after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan warned Sweden not to expect support for its bid for NATO membership following weekend protests in Stockholm by an anti-Islam activist and pro-Kurdish groups.

"But of course there have been raised concerns within NATO on how the incidents in Sweden will affect the schedule," Haavisto said. "We are in contact with Finland to find out what is really meant," Swedish Foreign Minister Tobias Billstrom said in a statement to The Associated Press. "Sweden respects the agreement between Sweden, Finland and Turkiye regarding our NATO membership. We have done that so far and we shall continue to do so."

Swedish foreign minister says country closing in on NATO membership approval | CBC NewsSweden’s foreign minister says his country is inching closer to having its NATO application ratified by one of the military alliance's last holdouts. Sweden harbors terrorists. That's why the application hasn't been approved so far. If Russia attacks Sweden, PKK members may defend the country. But would they? Yeah ok, after that permit issued Quran burning? They got better chances joining the Russians. Translation they are considering selling out the Kurds to Turkey so they can sell out their sovereignty to the US.
