TORONTO -- A puzzling trend among pregnant women has doctors around the world scratching their heads, and a group of Canadian scientists is trying to crack the medical mystery.
“It is definitely surprising,” Dr. Jon Dorling, a neonatologist at the IWK Health Centre in Halifax, told CTV News. “We would have expected that the increased stress from the pandemic … would have made it worse rather than better.” Preterm birth is the leading cause of infant mortality worldwide and can lead to a higher risk of cerebral palsy, vision loss and hearing problems. But doctors don’t have a complete understanding of what triggers early birth.Now, a group of researchers with the University of Manitoba is leading an international study in hopes of learning whether or not the trend is a statistical blip or part of a larger phenomenon linked to the way life has changed under COVID-19.
Researchers plan to survey 19 countries and enlist dozens of doctors to dig into birthing statistics.
Yup. Women, like men, weren’t made to do it all. The culture that we created was way more negative than we think.
The correlation would be women staying home and not having the added stress of work and taking older siblings to school, daycare, extra curriculars, etc.

Really? Pregnant, stressed about what’s to come and about trying to fit into your clothes to get to work, the commute, ridiculous office politics, likely a work environment that is beyond stressful and exhausting. What a mystery
Too many children are born to stressed out mothers because women have to slave while pregnant. Who knows how many are born disabled because of this. But there will not be such study because the findings may be inconvenient for the rich employers.
Less stress, less physical contact with any possible infections, healthier living (eating, plenty of rest) --- doesn't surprise me at all as a mother of 4!
Is it possible, that covid19 has done some good to the human population?
Maybe do a study on the historical facts of premature babies and connect the dots from when expectant moms were at home to today. Seems that being at home with less stress speaks volumes on the toll stress takes on mothers to be, and on the polulation as a whole.
Most pregnant women have been off work much longer than others due to the 'unknown risks' early on. It's really not a medical mystery. We've had to slow down, not work 40+ hours a week, be home more to eat better meals. What magic 'taking care of yourself' can be.
Really? Scratching their heads? It’s because they’re moving around less and aren’t as stressed. Also, having an Incompetent cervix is common and often goes undiagnosed. An incompetent cervix causes preterm labor. Staying home, means moving less, less pressure on the cervix.

Because women are staying at home and are under less stress from work and daily routines. Maybe it's because we're not eating as much junk food at restaurants.
Maybe the Moms are afraid of the hospital?
Amazing what happens when women stay home while pregnant.
Why is this a mystery? Pregnant women were at home and able to relax and not have to work right up until their due dates. Other supportive people at home.

The real mystery should be that we are coming up on a year since China had reports of COVID and here we are still no vaccine. Not, that less premature babies are being born, hello women everywhere were stuck home for months allowing their bodies to rest and get proper nurtrition
Probably people staying home watching netflix all the time no harsh movement, babies have enough time to mature.
So women staying at home and not working have healthier babies?
Woman can and are resting more. Working at home not going out. Maybe not drinking

How many doctors suggest c section early for one reason or another just to suit their schedules?

Maybe because mothers aren't forced to go into work and relax in the third trimester?

Correlation ≠ Causation
Women often have Braxton Hicks contractions which is fake labour and doctors will either induce or do an emergency c-section even though you're only seven months pregnant 🙄. But since the pandemic they don't have the extra time to do these things thank God.
That's because a lot of babies are born prematurely only because the woman goes into fake labour and then in the doctor decide to do a induce or c-section instead of letting her go through it.
May I suggest that expected mothers are being forced to slow down with less stress than they normally have in a normal crazy world.

Watching tonight and was shocked to see SandieR_ctv. Haven't been watching lately but it appears that she's either unwell, has had some very poor cosmetic surgery OR was the loser in a 10-bout mixed martial arts fight. Which one?
Expecting Moms arent out breathing in car exhaust & air pollution.
Could it possibly be because lots of women have lost their jobs, or are staying at home due to covid, causing less stress on their bodies allowing the baby to be less stressed as well resulting in less premature births
Is this the beginning of our “correlate everything to covid” phase?
Everyone including mothers-to be discovered how weak & ill-supported our health care institutions are. Hospitals are empty.
Babies aren't in a rush to get out into the world in this environment
Cv cured the common flu and cold and also cancer. CV has also made premature babies healthier. Just be sure not to fart.
