Federal Liberals use abortion access fears to fire up base in fundraising email

OTTAWA — As Prime Minister Justin Trudeau decries American states for “backsliding” on abortion rights, the Liberal party is using abortion to galvanize its base and help fill its war chest for the upcoming federal election.

The debate about abortion rights has abruptly flared south of the border, thanks to several U.S. states’ moves to restrict women’s access to abortion services. Trudeau told reporters in France Thursday he is “deeply disappointed” in these U.S. developments, which he characterized as “backsliding on women’s rights.”

The Liberals have been making a concerted effort over the last week to make political hay over their stance on reproductive rights and how Liberals differ from Conservatives on the issue. The party clearly views this as a motivator for its base, with Trudeau as chief “ally and defender,” as he stated in his own comments to media Thursday.

“Canadians — and Canadian women in particular — deserve to know whether or not the Conservative Party of Canada would take us backwards by restricting or undermining a woman’s right to choose,” Monsef says in her letter.

Liberals keep trying new ideas in the hope that eventually something will stick to the wall.

No one's using anything. It's quite simple: If you are pro-life, you believe that abortion is murder and therefore you are morally obliged to do whatever you can, directly or indirectly, to put a stop to it, and that includes lying your ass off to voters.

A very polarizing issue. Trudeau cannot win this one without both sides doing battle.

Liberals are going to waste a lot of valuable time trying to get this contrived nonsense to stick to the conservatives,

We need abortions so we can keep our lollipops and fancy pants

Shame on them....the politics of division on full display once again.

This is the Trudeau/Liberals taking their promised high road for the 2019 campaign. It's a nice break from his identity politics to go to smear tactics & outright lies. Most, however, know that's all they've got the rest is just smoke & mirrors & the demise of Canada.

More Liberal lies and fear mongering. The Conservatives have repeated over and over again save one odd duck that they would not ever interfere with a women's right to abortion.

They have got nothing. Their record is so bad that they are playing the abortion card. They will not run on deficit spending or carbon tax. At this point, who is listening?

Desperate people do desperate things in desperate times.

Abortion, gun laws, and ‘hidden agenda’. That will be the next election. And with an ‘approved media’ list, who will stop the lying Liberal narrative?

Divide and concur hey? There is no abortion issue here jt. Go to Alabama where the issue is real. Stop trying to divide this country. That may work for Trump in the backwards states in the US,but most(unfortunatly not all) Canadians see through your hate filled fear mongering.

To Liberals, life begins at conception, but compassion ends at birth.

justin .. we can judge a whole nation by how its weakest are treated. there isnt anyone weaker than an unborn baby. treating the weakest life form like trash with no rights at all.. reflects on an uncivilized, uncouth government.

They know the conservatives won’t open up the debate or change abortion legislation. But they will fear monger anyway.
