In Germany, families minister Franziska Giffey has called on municipalities to organise alternative reception facilities if necessary, while neighbouring Austria provides guaranteed places in women's refuges or the removal of violent family members from quarantined households.

When I was younger and desperately unhappy at home being forced to stay home with my parents would have been a nightmare. I counted on my friends for support and love while I was being mistreated. I really worry about young people who may find themselves in that type of situation
