Despite ongoing appeal, family to be sent back to Mexico later this month

She has cooked, packaged and delivered thousands of meals, and handed out countless bottles of water and an immeasurable amount of care.

“I cried, I was so scared,” said the girl, now in Grade 4 student. “Now I can’t sleep, and I don’t understand why we have to leave.”Although the family has an application pending for permanent residency on compassionate and humanitarian grounds, including the best interests of the child, their pre-removal risk assessment was denied.

The family recently learned they have until Aug. 18 to make new submissions after an error was noticed on their risk assessment. Although the family’s application for permanent residency, “has a strong chance of success,” it would not halt their removal if the decision isn’t rendered before their CBSA removal date, said Joeck.
