Maybe the next election will be about threading a needle more adroitly than Scheer could: closer to the positions of other parties on abortion, less categorical on carbon pricing, willing to attend his first pride parade. Maybe Alberta and Saskatchewan Conservatives, who fired a shot across O’Toole’s bow by supporting Leslyn Lewis in greater number than they supported him, would stay motivated to vote for an O’Toole-led party.
a Scheer Conservative minority? Would the Greens or Bloc? Or would they keep propping up a fading Liberal minority, even if the post-election Liberals had fewer seats than the Conservatives? Beats me, but it’s at least worth asking whether the Conservatives are any surer now that they could govern with a minority.
This whole discussion is based on the assumption that O’Toole’s goal is to eke out a narrow win by playing defence better than Scheer did. If he’s aiming for more than that by changing the terms of political debate in Canada, there’s not much sign of that in the campaign he just ran. Elections in Canada are about the broad political centre. You either take the centre from your opponents or you define a new centre they can’t reach.
I think the cultural centre in Canada has moved since Stephen Harper essentially defined the Conservative Party in 2003-2006. Most of these changes are still dismissed by a lot of Conservatives as “political correctness.
No he is not.
Anyone but Trudeau...anyone who can take Canada back and away from Trudeau’s deficit costing globalist, media obsessed agenda
Positive to see Maclean’s take offence on Andrew Scheer’s comments against MSM in their daily email. I didn’t see CBC or CTV do any self reflection. I am a regular critic of MSM for their bias against conservatives but recognize Macleans have a broader measure of objectivity.
No. I think it's a digression. Demagoguery is not an affective, or sustainable, means to building a coalition.
Erin who? Never heard the name before, is he a Canada Post employee?
I think you mean NDP
The only real criticism I have of Wells here is that while Canada’s Back maybe an arrogant assertion. Take Canada Back is not equally specious...it’s way worse. Plus creepily assertive/aggressive.
No.
If the Silent Generation and the Greatest Generation made up the electorate, he'd have a chance, but Gen X, Y, and Z have other ideas
Nope.
