Commuters may struggle to make their way to work this morning as strong winds and rain hit the GTA.

issued a special weather statement for Wednesday, warning of wind gusts of 70 to 80 km/h.

The weather agency warns that strong winds have the potential to toss loose objects, break tree branches and cause power outages.Today’s high is expected to be 11 C while the low will be -2 C. The commute back home will be chillier than in the morning, as the temperature is expected to fall to 0 C by the afternoon.

In the evening, wind gusts can reach 70 km/h, with a wind chill near -10 C. There’s also a 40 per cent chance of flurries. Environment Canada is also warning of even stronger winds near the water, with the agency saying gusts could reach up to 90 km/h near the eastern shores of the Great Lakes.The cold weather is expected to continue into tomorrow as well, with Thursday hitting a high of 3 C and a low of -2 C. Wind gusts will be slightly lighter than Wednesday, ranging from 30 to 50 km/h. It’ll feel like -8 C. There’s also a 30 per cent chance of flurries in the morning.
