Well they consulted some bow tied linguist , who guaranteed hasn’t hunted “Elk” or probably been to a CFL game and he/she dug down into the old English dictionary and “Elks” is proper English .. to hell with how your fan base say it .

Despite living in Calgary for years and inheriting a hatred for Edmonton teams, I have to admit that the Oilers and Esks have done an excellent job, at supporting and being responsible for & to their community, and honouring important people to the city, like the amazing Joey!

Even though, I’m a Riders and Stamps fan, I’m glad the Elks (former Esks) did the right thing, not the easy or necessarily popular thing. It was a no-win situation, especially from the view of the old die-hard fans and traditionalists. In the end, I’m a fan of the CFL!
