• COVID risks in some school districts have reached undeniably dangerous levels.and become effective transmitters of the virus to other individuals, including adults.

Places around the world, such as New Zealand, Australia and Atlantic Canada provinces, are successfully approaching being COVID-free. They chose a COVID elimination strategy that keeps cases near zero, instead of the mitigation strategy our province chose. Specifically for education policy, they allow their schools to go hybrid or remote as a rapid response should outbreaks occur to stop them from growing and also to reduce classroom density.

It’s been more than a year of pandemic living and learning in B.C. Unfortunately, despite pleas from numerous parents, grandparents, and educators, B.C. still has a way to go in making schools as COVID-safe as possible. With two more months of school left and a new school year ahead, we owe it to our next generation and front-line educators to make it right.
