A flurry of companies from various sectors including cannabis, alcohol and consumer-packaged goods sectors have announced imminent plans for edibles in Canada.

Edible marijuana products are displayed for sale at a Weeds Glass & Gifts medical marijuana dispensary in downtown Vancouver on Friday, May 1, 2015. THE CANADIAN PRESS/Darryl DyckTORONTO -- From the classic pot brownie to cannabis-infused cotton candy, there is no shortage of options for edibles at an illicit dispensary in downtown Toronto.

Canadians can legally purchase cannabis-infused goods and vapes once the government rolls out the final edible pot regulations, which Ottawa has said must be brought into force no later than Oct. 17, 2019. Health Canada published its proposed edible pot regulations in December and wrapped up its public consultation period on Feb. 20. The federal health agency is now reviewing the responses before finalizing the regulations.

Cannabinoid-infused products that will be legalized under the new regulations include inhalable extracts as well as solids, beverages and topicals, like lotions. Under the previous licensing system enforced prior to Canada legalizing recreational cannabis on Oct. 17, companies conducted various forms of cannabis research under what was called a "dealers' licence."

So-called palatability tests are not required to produce and sell edibles and some who are simply introducing products into Canada already on offer in some U.S. states may not feel the need to do them, said Brenna Boonstra, director of quality and regulatory at Cannabis Compliance Inc. But it's a good idea to taste-test edibles before launch, she added.

"All of a sudden, our whole plan to use the existing facility is out the window and now we have to build a whole new facility," he said.

100% the government will do this poorly just like last October!

Meanwhile, ignoring government paperwork and unnecessary beauracracy I can purchase a wide variety of edibles safely from many locations across the city.

U.S. college bribery scandal unlikely in Canada, but inequality persistsThe college bribery scandal is spurring discussion about the ways in which money greases the wheels of the U.S. admissions process -- and while most acknowledge there are fewer shortcuts to securing a spot in Canadian schools, advocates say the system is slanted to give well-off students a leg up. Rich get richer poor get poorer! No different than the youth hockey teams. It's who you know and who your parents are, not who is the best player. Bullies & children of bullies rise to the top. Our system is not that different....
