The Algoma University International Affairs Office recently welcomed a group of students from Utrecht University in the Netherlands to the Sault Ste. Marie campus for an in-person cultural exchange.
In a news release, Algoma said the two professors have been jointly working on the course Community Economic and Social Development: Special Topics II Community-Based Arts, Archives, and Activism through Collaborative Online International Learning Virtual Exchange. The group was able to connect with the community in Sault Ste. Marie through a cultural education walk on Whitefish Island, Indigenous art and cultural workshops, and a Soo Greyhounds playoff game.
“Through initiatives like the Community Economic and Social Development course, we aim to cultivate a deeper appreciation for Indigenous perspectives and empower students to become advocates for social justice on a global scale.”
