A scathing new report reveals that dozens of HIV-positive women were forced or coerced into sterilization after giving birth at public hospitals in South Africa.

The Commission for Gender Equality's report this week says it investigated complaints by at least 48 women of "cruel, torturous or inhumane and degrading treatment" at the hospitals. At times it occurred when women were in labour.

The forced sterilizations at 15 public hospitals in South Africa between 2002 and 2005 have sparked public outrage. Some of the hospitals are in some of the country's largest cities such as Johannesburg and Durban. The commission said its investigation took time because of challenges including some hospital staffers who tried to hide documents or refused to co-operate.

It happens. Ask our six year olds.

How awful save these women

We are sterilizing and changing the sex of our young children.

Wow...sounds a little barbaric to me.....😢😢🙏❤️🇨🇦

Forcible anything is wrong! ... but people with garbage genetics, or communicable diseases should 'want' to not perpetuate the illness. I think education and attainable birth control is the better option. Some women/men will likely choose sterilization on their own.

Newer drugs (probably not available there) can reduce the transmission rate to almost zero.

Why should they be allowed to reproduce?

South Korea to test 200,000 members of church at centre of coronavirus outbreakAbout 60 per cent of South Korea’s cases linked to the Shincheonji Church of Jesus I knew Shincheonji had 1000s of members, but who knew they have 200000 members? Is this cult really that influential that they can even have educated members who believe their leader is immortal? It seems, at least in Toronto, people who are showing symptoms are not being tested, even with x-rays that show anomalies in their lungs. Is there a move not to undertake these tests? It would seem absurd after what SARS did to TO.
