Dogs suspected of killing 24 sheep and a deer seized in North Cowichan

Two dogs suspected of killing more than two dozen sheep and a deer in late March have been seized from a residential property in North Cowichan.

The deaths happened on neighbouring farms and properties on March 29, the municipality said in a statement. The dogs are believed to have entered a farm and attacked a flock of sheep, “chasing, attacking, biting, and mauling several of the animals,” the municipality said. Later that day, the two dogs are believed to have entered another farm property and attacked a herd of sheep, killing several mature ewes.After a warrant was approved, the North Cowichan animal-control officer, two bylaw staff and two North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP officers seized the dogs on April 17.In January, a Cobble Hill farmer shot and killed two dogs — a pit bull and a Rottweiiler — from a nearby property after they attacked and mauled her sheep, which had to be euthanized.
