NEW: Doctors file complaint about truck traffic pollution in downtown Ottawa ottnews

A transport truck turns at the intersection of Rideau and Waller streets in downtown Ottawa. Jan. 10, 2023.

The truck corridor requires transport trucks to travel along Nicholas Street, Waller Street, Rideau Street and King Edward Avenue to connect with highways in Quebec. Family physician Dr. Eugenie Waters says they are "appalled" the health of residents is being put at "such great risk". Ecojustice Canada said there were multiple solutions to remedy dangerous air pollution in downtown Ottawa, including establishing a low emission zone in the downtown core or prohibiting heavy trucks in the area.

The National Capital Commission is looking at building a new interprovincial bridge connecting Ottawa and Gatineau as part of the Long-Term Integrated Interprovincial Crossings Plan. Several of the five current crossings are expected to reach capacity by 2031.

Best to avoid the Ottawa downtown area.

It is unacceptable that trucks drive through the core of Ottawa to get to Gatineau! The high speed arteriole was blocked due to corruption in city council and the “blue bloods” of new Edinburgh. People have died because of those trucks. Blood is on their hands. God will judge.

Secretaries think they are doctors, doctors think they are pollution experts , stay on your lane

Doctor in downtown Ottawa complaining about air they breathe? Must be her…

You can’t have your cake and eat it too… trucks deliver food and product to the downtown core.

Doctors can move out from Downtown. Problem solved.

Pollution everywhere.

What’s doctors have to do with downtown? Hospitals aren’t there? All these elites complaining. Good grief times have changed for worse.

Force trucks coming from Montreal to Gatineau to take hwy 50 on the Quebec side and stay off the 417

Apparently the commentators WANT big trucks driving downtown and occasionally running over pedestrian. Something tells me they almost never enter downtown Ottawa themselves.

Maybe they should have had more than one legal truck route planned.... hmmmm...... 20 years ago perhaps?

Doctors should stick to their jobs.

trucks were there first. also, what kind of doctor, MD or the fluff kind?

Interesting, looks like a load of salt from Johnstown, to spread on the roads so folk that are not very good drivers can stay alive? Please put an end to that NOW.

Wouldn’t be OTT if someone wasn’t complaining about something..

Nicole Feriancek named editor-in-chief of the Ottawa Citizen, Ottawa SunNicole Feriancek has been named editor-in-chief of the Ottawa Citizen and Ottawa Sun newsroom. Tell me the difference between the two. I remember when the Ottawa Citizen was a legitimate source of journalism ... with investigative reporters and staff columnists who earned a reputation for non-partisan quality and integrity. Now it's just another PostMedia mouthpiece, parroting alt-Right extremist views. Unfortunately Postmedia is just a mouthpiece for propaganda from the Conservative party and their donors. Hopefully for her sake she can use this position as a springboard to somewhere credible that actually does journalism.

Dudas: The convoy protest showed that Ottawa urgently needs a new policing modelWe don't need to reinvent the wheel. Other national capitals have overcome the same complex jurisdictional issues this city faces. So what's the solution? You provide none. Other then say another policing solution. You going to invent another police force? Won't do anything except cause more confusion in the city and more overlapping bureaucracy bullshit. Police worked hard to find the balance between right to protest and civic order. The difference in this one is that PM and supporters did not approve the protest and it was personal for PM. The focus on urgent changes could only lead to strengthening Trudeaus police state. No. The police knew exactly where they stood. The problem was when the government wanted them to move their ethical and moral line over to accommodate for Trudeau's ego trip.

New owner for Ottawa's Carleton TavernThe storied Carleton Tavern is changing hands. CTV's Tyler Fleming tells us the new owner wants to keep the traditions alive. Some should be kept alive but it also should be made accessible enough that people can join friends for lunch on the first floor and it's not and it won't be because people in wheelchairs don't count in the city of Ottawa. Especially Vanier and Hintonburg 1-3 step minimum rule
