ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — Fisheries and Oceans Canada has announced that the snow crab Total Allowable Catch for 2024 will increase by 5.2 per cent from last year, reaching 57,568 tonnes.

DFO says recent stock assessments show there are plenty of crabs available to catch and most areas are doing well. Additionally, in response to stakeholder requests and following a comprehensive review, DFO has merged the 3L inshore and offshore science assessment areas in a bid to ensure sustainable management practices while supporting the livelihoods of Atlantic Canadian communities dependent on the snow crab fishery.
