The smug notion that our system is better than the one in the U.S. rings hollow in the face of the much more effective American response

Americans will celebrate July 4 with minimal COVID restrictions. On July 1, Canadians will have little freedom to associate outside their homes and even less to celebrate.

The difference in how each country has responded to the pandemic could not be starker, which is no doubt why the U.S. border remains closed, doing irreparable harm to companies relying on tourism. We can and must do better.Derek H. Burney is the co-author of “Braver Canada: Shaping Our Destiny in a Precarious World,” published by McGill-Queen’s in 2020.

hoseman66 Why can't we have both? If you don't want to pay extra, then you can go and use the public system. If you choose to pay extra, then you should be able to choose for a private healthcare option.

Worth debating

More bullshit from The Trump Post. Anything written in this paper has to be looked at through a Trump supporting lens.

Pass

NP becomes more and more of a joke with every article they put out

Yea fuck no. What it exposes is a need for Cons to stop cutting medical and whining for a private system. Privitized healthcare is like opening the flood gates to the horrendously broken system the U.S has. We need more funding for Hospitals and various medical stuff.

The ongoing effort by the right to privatize health care. Littered with outright lies. This guy worked for the 2 worst PM’s in history. He is now a paid shill for dismantling single payer Universal Health Care. If that is what he wants he should go south.

Canadians cling to our sacrosanct Universal health system. We are conditioned to accept wait lists and shortages. We are locked down because the system has no flexibility to manage anything beyond the basic normal flow. We need to look at public/private options.

CCPVirus the COVID19 is the UnrestrictedBioweapon which ccp made in wuhan lab and spread to Canada It is time to ask the ccp pay for this! it is time to ask the ccp give the Antidote!

COVID exposed a complete lack of pandemic preparedness not the quality of universal health care. No amount of private health care would have solved any of these problems.

Stop trying to make it happen, it's not going to happen. If there's one thing Canadians overwhelmingly agree on it is that we like our healthcare system.

Retirement homes are private healthcare facilities, remember how that went?

Not at all, the way seniors retirement home handling in the pandemic by private health care was done, its atrocious & criminality act by them. They were left to themselves to die. Privatization will lead to profiteering,& degradation of the services. They are looters.

How about we just stop underfunding our current healthcare system....

Wow lol. This has to be a joke.

How do we find leaders in this crazy over PC era?!

Here come the lobbyists for US style health care. Quite the spin on a higher death rate and insane costs. Remember that they only want your money.

Preach it!

Right, we should emulate a system that had more than twice as many Covid deaths per capita. That is the most expensive on earth while delivering infant mortality rates worse than Cuba, and life expectancy lower than Peru or Turkey. But hey, a few guys can make some serious money!

No it doesn't, but these lobbyists for American pharma can't pass up a good pandemic. Shameful. cdnpoli

Canadian's private health-care tier up until now has been the USA border & keeping your mouth shut 🤫

Another stupid opinion piece. Yes Canada was slower, but overall, the country weathered the pandemic storm and ramped up vaccination. NP, stop using divisive content for clicks.

Well, that's completely backward and idiotic.

Why is it the obvious always needs to be said!

Yes finally common sense. Manitoba has 72 ICU beds, Philadelphia with the same population 400. Our undersized socialized hospital system keeps us locked down while the US is wide open. Need a public/ private option.

In post-pandemic Europe, migrants will face digital fortressThe EU has poured 3 billion euros (US$3.7 billion) into security tech research following the refugee crisis in 2015-16, when more than 1 million people fled to EU countries. And now a vast array of physical and experimental new digital barriers is being installed and tested during the quiet months of the coronavirus pandemic at the 200-kilometre Greek border with Turkey. I don’t think Canada would have the guts to do this. that looks like my office nice setup
