Defending Canada in a rapidly evolving world

In 2017, Canada released our defence policy titled Strong, Secure, Engaged. Since then, the world has fundamentally changed. Russia launched an illegal and unprovoked invasion of Ukraine—a war that continues today and attempts to directly undermine freedom, democracy, and the rule of law. In the Indo-Pacific, China is challenging the international rules that have kept us all safe.

These new investments improve our ability to defend Canada and build on our $38.5-billion NORAD modernization plan announced in 2022. They strengthen Canada’s contribution to continental defence and will allow for more interoperability with the United States. Between Our North, Strong and Free and our NORAD modernization plan, we will become an even more united and integrated front. Not only will our defence policy make Canada stronger at home, but it will also make us stronger abroad.
