Speeding and reckless driving were the primary causes of collisions last year, while nearly 30 per cent of those who died were not wearing seatbelts.

The report, made public on Tuesday, found there were 266 fatal collisions recorded last year, compared with 241 in 2021. The annual average between 2017 and 2021 was 232. The report found that the largest number of fatal collisions occurred in the areas of Mauricie-Lanaudière , followed by the Eastern Townships—Centre-du-Québec and the Outaouais-Laurentians area .on roads patrolled by the SQ rose from 30 to 36, while seven cyclists died in each of those years.Recommended from Editorial
