Baraka's wife said the U.S. Embassy in Khartoum phoned her to offer condolences. The embassy did not return phone calls and emails from AP seeking comment. The bout of violence came two weeks after the UN Security Council ended the joint UN-African Union peacekeeping force's mandate in the region. The UNAMID force, established in 2007, is expected to complete its withdrawal by June 30.
