NEW YORK -- As if a fourth round 6-2 6-1 thrashing at the U.S. Open was not hard enough to deal with, American Shelby Rogers said that she would most likely have to contend with death threats on social media following Monday's loss to Emma Raducanu.
American Sloane Stephens said she received a torrent of angry messages on social media, including racist and sexist abuse, following her third round loss to Angelique Kerber. The WTA Tour said in an email to Reuters that the number of players targeted for online abuse is on the rise and it is working with social media companies to find ways of curtailing the harassment.
Get off social media. You’re essentially giving wack jobs your phone number. At least shutdown your direct messages and don’t read your notifications. It’s awful that celebrities are treated this way but the fix is easy.

Where the heck is the governments and the authorities? These cannot happen and are not acceptable. These people need to be found and arrested. This is deplorable. These are kids playing sports.
So unfortunate, law enforcement needs to take a stronger stance and make an example out of the worst offenders.
One thing is to show displeasure at matches outcomes (like someone losing because of long potty breaks, or disrupting the play rhythm between points when the opponent is serving) but another altogether is to issue threats.
This should really, really cause people concern considering how polite and lame most of their fans are.
