The Nova Scotia Court of Appeal has quashed a Dartmouth man’s murder conviction, saying the judge at his 2021 trial made “reversible errors of law.”

In addition, Purvis alleged ineffective assistance of counsel, primarily in relation to the issue of him not testifying in his own defence. Miles, 42, was found dead in his residence the next afternoon. He had multiple injuries from blunt-force trauma, including eight fractured ribs, a collapsed lung and a ruptured spleen, and lost about two litres of blood internally.George Purvis Jr., now 36, of West Chezzetcook was the key witness for the Crown at trial. He was also charged with murder but pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter and received a six-year sentence in February 2019.

As he left the apartment, George said he heard his uncle stomp Miles a few more times. He said Miles was groaning and squirming in pain.
