KENTVILLE, N.S. — A story about a trio of sisters from a rural Cape Breton community is coming back to the Annapolis Valley.“Returning to this masterpiece was an easy choice for me,” said Mike Butler, a longtime MacIvor fan who directed The Lighthouse Theatre Company’s iteration. “When we launched this show a few years ago, it was so well-received but had a very short run, so many of us weren’t done with the show.
The play tells the story of three sisters, Louise, Theresa and Agnes MacKeigan, who reunite at their childhood home in Cape Breton to care for their dying mother. Each sister must also sort out the emptiness and loneliness that has come to rule her day-to-day life. They learn that their lives can be different from what they expected and what they have come to accept. As one of them says: “Maybe you shouldn’t even know where you’re going. You’ll only know where it is when you get there.
Local theatre regulars Tracy Churchill, Candy O’Brien, and Jeannie Myles play the three sisters in Marion Bridge, which is described as both funny and poignant. “I have had the pleasure of being the director for this production and with talented actresses like Tracy, Candy and Jeannie. I’ve acted more as an extra set of eyes during our rehearsals, than a director,” Butler said, “as these ladies do not need direction with the amount of experience they have collected over the years.”Separate Beds to be performed in Kentville, N.S., as CentreStage Theatre begins 40th season– The latest show at CentreStage Theatre in Kentville.
