Kutcher is a former political staffer, lawyer and restaurant owner who, in the decade since his family moved to Summerside, has become heavily involved in many of the city’s institutions and community organizations.
“The reality is that tomorrow things are not going to change right away. It's going to take time. There’s going to be ups, there’s going to be downs. We’re in a very uncertain time, the world is very difficult, there are a lot of people in our community struggling, who are going to need help – some urgently, some in the months ahead and some in the years ahead,” said Kutcher.
Incumbent mayor Basil Stewart conceded the victory to Kutcher shortly after 9:30 p.m. and arrived at his campaign headquarters to wish him well. Stewart is an entrepreneur and former police officer who was first elected as Summerside’s mayor in 1985, a post he held until losing the 2014 election to local businessman Bill Martin. Martin did not run again in 2018 and Stewart made a comeback, winning his latest term in office.
