The broader trend is that men have risen to the occasion, bucking predictions that the pandemic would cause a regression in domestic labour patterns along gender lines

In the long-running annual series “Oh, The Humanities!” National Post reporters survey academic scholarship at the Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences, with an eye to the curious. But this year it was cancelled.

The new element of viral danger has made grocery shopping a more masculine activity, more brutish, less finely tuned, and among heterosexual parents in Canada, more his sort of housework than hers. This is one striking preliminary insight from research not yet published, but in review for the Canadian Review of Sociology, which was to have been presented at this year’s Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences’ annual Congress, which was cancelled.

Instead, what he found in his geographically and ethnically weighted survey of 1,250 Canadian heterosexual cohabiting parents, co-authored with Melissa Milkie of University of Toronto and Casey Scheibling of McMaster University, was that the regression is not happening, and “household division of labour appears to have remained static or become slightly more equal during a period of quarantine, remote work, remote schooling and social distancing.

This is an analysis of perception. It is not a precise analysis of how time is actually spent, like a lawyer measuring out a work day in tiny billable increments. It is about what Shafer describes as “perceptions of equality.”

Sexism for men, never heard of it. realmendontcarethatmuch

Dumb headline. Seems you're trying to say the MSM missed an opportunity to put dad's down.

More anti male drivel.

That's fantastic!

oilerdevin stepped up his home game. He did the shopping, helped with cleaning, made pretty much every meal, and he was the Teacher. He's one of the Lucky who went back work. But he is the best husband ever in my eyes and heart. Now I am struggling without him.

“Headline writers can’t seem to pull head out of own ass: study.”

Wow, I hope that’s a failed attempt at a quip. What a horrible headline.

this headline fails to not disappoint

Sexist much!!?

My wife hasn't washed her own car in 10 years.

This is such a negative sounding headline. Why not celebrate their hard work properly and make this a positive news story like it should be. I know my house would be a disaster zone right now without my husband's newfound cleaning habit, I'm going to encourage it as much as I can

Well maybe expectations are to high.

That’s because real men take adversity head on! It’s almost fun.

The attack on fatherhood continues.

National Post succeeds to disappoint as expected on headline clarity.

Farmers refuse to hire Canadians, because they don't want to pay them a living wage. GlobeDebate Because they're effectively used as low cost slave labour which suppresses the local job market, by exploitative large farms owners. Next question. GlobeDebate COVID 19. simple answer. Dumb question. Dumb article.
