A 46-year-old cyclist who was the victim of an alleged unprovoked road rage incident in High Park says that for the first time in his life he is anxious to be on the streets of Toronto.

Marcel Zierfuss said he was cycling on Colborne Lodge Drive around 2 p.m. on Friday when he was threatened by a driver.

Zierfuss then said the driver tried twice to use his vehicle to get him off the roadby swerving towards him. “I've never had a car intentionally come in front of me and try to take me out. I'm lucky to be standing,” he said. The incident comes as tensions between cyclists and drivers at High Park continue to spike. Cyclists have claimed that Toronto police are participating in an unfair “enforcement blitz” in which they ticket cyclists for speeding in the park while police and politicians claim the campaign is meant to encourage road safety amid complaints.

“We have incidents across the city where vehicles are weaponized against people. It's shocking and shows that we've got a huge problem on our hands that's only going to be dealt with through the coordination of all levels of government—from the province implementing the Vulnerable Road Users Act to stronger automated enforcement in the City of Toronto and municipalities across the province.

So the cyclist ran into the back of the car? if that had been two cars then the one doing that would have been at fault. Were there any witnesses? Does anyone know what happened before that collision?

“Alleged”. Maybe we have a cyclist Jussie? 🤔

Just so we are clear, the cyclist rear ended the car & its the cars fault. If this was two cars who would be at fault? The police would have automatically charged the car in the rear with careless driving.

Did he hurt his pussy?

Time to change the HTA. Offences such as this one ought to be considered attempted murder. Hit & Run incidences also need to have the same legal baring as attempted murder & 1st/2nd degree murder charges. Defence Lawyers need not RESPOND.

another shit disturber cyclist looking for trouble. These cyclists want to be treated like cars until they come to a red light, then...they are pedestrians and go thru the intersection, then they become cars again🙄

Everyone in High Park needs to chill

The fact that high park has cars running through it is laughable. Toronto is such a beta city. Poor infrastructure has made people over-reliant on cars and caused ridiculous traffic everywhere. The city has a long way to go if it ever wants to compete.

Cyclists ride in high speed on side walks too putting walkers on high risk being hit. Cyclists think they own the road when they don’t pay for any licensing, permits, and parking too.

Wow a lot of folks think that driving a bike means you probably deserve to be hit by a car huh

Cyclist and road rage, this is never unprovoked.

The way cyclists are treated in this country is disgusting

Sure it was unprovoked

High on the Park what a joke

Vehicular assault.

This is why I have a dash cam...

midweekcycling cars ruin cities

It will be interesting to hear the other side of the discussion. There are always three sides and right now have only heard the one.

Drivers should face stiffer penalties for targeting cyclists or pedestrians.

There’s more to this. People don’t randomly start yelling at someone (unless they’re impaired). & why was the cyclist so close to the car? Aren’t cyclist require to maintain a safe distance in order to stop? & you only have to take one swerve at me before I’m out of there.

Following too close applies to you as well sir 😅😭

This story is another example of the shrill cyclists lobby pushing their agenda while ignoring their own law breaking. Nobody condones what happened to this cyclist. Cyclists break every single rule of the road regularly every day. HighPark is just one example of that. BikeTO

Most of the bikers are crazy, rude and terrible

Cyclists should treated as road vehicles and follow the rules of the road...so many times I see these guys riding through stop signs and red lights..blocking right hand turns on red lights...this guy was probably antagonizing the driver...

When did cyclists get more power than vehicles on the city streets?

The cyclist is just like a vehicle. If any vehicle runs into another from behind , it's the vehicle in the back following too close that is at fault. . That's the law.

Part of city life now… get used to it!!

The cyclists in Toronto are out of control. Ticket them.

'unprovoked' 🤔

'Unprovoked' my ass.🙄

I don’t know wtf is wrong with some people. To have this much anger in them and to direct it at a total stranger is beyond belief. I laugh at people who come on to Twitter and claim that one group is totally at fault. Plenty of jerks driving cars and riding bikes out there.

Cyclists are the worst, be an adult buy a car

Of course its always unprovoked, cyclist are always right and always the victim :) Running a stop sign get hit...oh it's an unprovoked road rage. Running a red light and get cursed at, oh it's unprovoked. Cyclists always get the short end of the stick, boohoo.

'Unprovoked '

Lost in these conversations are pedestrians. Spend an afternoon at Christie and Bloor and you can count the bike riders (especially Uber bikes) speeding through red lights when pedestrians crossing on a green.

I am scared as a pedestrian from the cyclists who don’t follow traffic rules. Almost got hit at Bay and Bloor this morning by one who ran a red light. Not surprised people are fed up with cyclists

'In a letter sent to the mayor’s office on Sunday, Shellnutt says there is a need to “reduce anti-cycling narratives amongst the police and public.”'....legit, if cyclists followed road rules and weren't terrorists of high park, people wouldn't hate them....it starts from within

Cyclist’s need to adhere to the Highway Traffic Act which clearly defines everyone’s responsibilities. There are a lot of cyclists that do not obey the law. I do not condone using your vehicle as a deterrent.

Cars and bikes cannot operate in the same area, eventually bikes always loose.

There’s always two sides to every story.

Unprovoked? Absolutely bs. Why is a driver ALWAYS the 'perpetrator ' when a cyclist is involved?

Ban cars they are bad

A lot of replies against cyclists. In Toronto, cyclists must have the right-of-way or these incidents will increase.

Again people think it’s safe to ride bikes throughout the concrete jungle! It never has been safe and never will be! Your elected politicians are too afraid to say this. Instead they encourage people to put their lives at risk by biking with dump trucks and cars so close! Insane!

Please let’s call it as it is, if he was just riding his bike like he should, I believe the car would given come close to him. SOME cyclists think they own the roads and then shit happens!!!

Now he knows how pedestrians feel when cyclists come flying by and ignoring all laws of the road. 'for the first time in his life he is anxious to be on the streets of Toronto'

I’ve seen the reverse happen - not in HP - but in other neighbourhoods. Cyclists raging, act like no-one else is using the street. If a vehicle hoots to alert them, cyclists show the finger, yell obscenities, race towards the vehicle - exactly what this guys says he did.

I don’t know. My elderly friend who stopped at the bike lane for 2 seconds, got yelled at by a speeding cyclist. That was in a condo neighbourhood at the Humber bay park. The sidewalk and the bike lane are right next to each other and it’s not very obvious to some pedestrians.

Some parts of the city simply aren't designed to have cars and cyclist share the same roads

“He decided to slam his brakes on, which caused me to crash headfirst into the back of his car at speed,” Did the cyclist not have full control before slamming into the back of the car?

A story about road rage and no details about the car. Sus.

You Never Know When The Magic ⭐️ Will Strike! Aladdin’s 🇨🇦 Banana Republic 🇨🇦 BlackFaceHitler 🇨🇳🧦🌴🍾🤡🎈

Thanks media for working the bike hater community into a lather. This is the result.

assault not road rage incident. words a have meanings maybe you’d know that.

Cyclist think they own the roads.

this was arguably, partially provoked by toronto police, whose excessive crackdown to prevent a totally non-existent problem has evidently incited motorists TO cops harassed and abused cyclists in high park themselves, now ppl are following their lead

*assault Call it what it is... Stop sugar coating road incidents...

Most cyclists do not obey the rules of the road. It’s been a frustration for motorists for years. However, it doesn’t mean they should be attacked.
