The Canadian Union of Public Employees has not yet released details about the deal, but said earlier that both sides had already reached an agreement on wages even as the union kept pushing for certain staffing levels to be guaranteed.Sign up to receive the daily top stories from the National Post, a division of Postmedia Network Inc.By clicking on the sign up button you consent to receive the above newsletter from Postmedia Network Inc.
But the union was still looking for $100 million in guarantees of higher staffing levels for educational assistants, librarians, custodians and secretaries, as well as an early childhood educator in every kindergarten classroom and not just classes that have more than 16 students. The looming strike would have come two weeks after CUPE’s last walkout, which shut many schools across the province for two days.
The job action ended after the government promised to repeal a law that imposed contracts on CUPE members, banned them from striking, and used the notwithstanding clause to allow the override of certain charter rights.
No.That is spin. They are sending governments offer for a vote, it’s same offer they offered last week. They can reject for children’s safety. I think they have heart to put the safety ahead of themselves? Do you think the FordPC puts children’s safety before charter school agenda?
I would hasten to add the word 'tentative'.
CUPE did us a great service, highlighting a $100M solution focused on supporting kids in class against Fordnation's approach that costs $365M. Thank you for taking a strong stand for kids and doing it while keeping them in class!
Deja vu
That’s not entirely truthful CUPE is taking a less than ideal deal to its membership to vote on because the government has refused to budge For all Lecce’s talk in the media, he isn’t negotiating I think Ford and Lecce were hoping for a strike so they don’t have to mandate masks
Ah good, we will have another English school board to go to in Ottawa when OCDSB trustee nutbars vote for indefinite mask mandates to counter the flu.
The strong-arm tactics the Conservatives used in the issue with upgrading educator's salaries is something everyone should remember. No friends of the working poor, the Conservatives.
For now. The vote. It won't fly.
Gut
It hasn’t cleared member approval and it won’t. It’s a crap deal. The bargaining committee folded.
That’s great news, what we can do without though, is all the insults thrown before a deal is reached
Until the next time
3.29 well thats a damn sight better than the outrageous 11% they were seeking. To hell with greedy unions
Assuming Ford flinched, eh.
Time to dismantle these big unions.
Well, that's a relief
