.jwaldag: Critical minerals strategy key to strengthening our global leadership and economic security cdnpoli (subs)

Natural Resources Minister Jonathan Wilkinson speaks with reporters on his way into the Liberal caucus meeting in West Block on Feb. 9, 2022. It is increasingly vital to economic growth, peace, and security in Canada that we build a domestic supply chain and protect our critical minerals from exploitation to avoid an electric energy vulnerability, writes John Aldag.

A few months ago, I wrote about how our government was developing a critical minerals strategy. This strategy will support an end-to-end supply chain in Canada. Critical minerals, electric batteries, and electric vehicles are a part of Canada’s 2050 net-zero future, and our economic future. Developing policy and committing investments that position Canada as a global leader in the electric vehicle value-chain is at the forefront of Canada’s natural resources efforts.
