The district says it has “no indication that the incident has impacted the personal information of our students and families.”

The Cowichan Valley School District is investigating a cyberattack that affected its internet services and website on Tuesday.“At this time we have no indication that the incident has impacted the personal information of our students and families,” the district said in a statement released on Tuesday afternoon.

“We are working diligently, in conjunction with external experts, to investigate and contain the incident.” The district said it is committed to restoring operations as soon as possible and will provide further updates. The Cowichan Valley School District, based in Duncan, has 16 elementary schools, four secondary schools and a collection of open and distributed learning programs. The district has more than 7,800 students and employs 1,200.

The incident is one of several similar attacks in the province in recent months. The provincial government was the victim of a hack in April, while the First Nations Health Authority was hit in May, and London Drugs was forced to shut down stores across Western Canada for more than a week.
